When I move it back to IMAP folder, I have access to the full categories list on that message.īy using category shortcuts (Simon's post) - i can assign a category using the shortcut then add more using the infobar. I can add categories to imap messages one of two ways:īy moving the message to a local folder and setting a category. When I flag a message the infobar says 'follow up' and categories can't be selected. Makes no sense - it obviously canīe done (and IS done with this workaround and apparently this local category setting is stored in the local PST file) - but I STILL WANT THE ABILITY BACK - AND SOON PLEASE.Īs an FYI, Kevin's method has never worked here with a new profile. This functionality - because even if it DOESN'T sync with the local IMAP server (which I would prefer by the way!! Thunderbird does this and it's FREE?!?) - I still want the LOCAL category available on IMAP as well. Ridiculous and pointless to have (hopefully unintentionally) REMOVED That you see in the header area above the email (click on your red category showing above the email) - and then you will have all the categories (local mind you) available to you again. Then you can RIGHT-CLICK on the colored category area The ridiculous 'workaround' I've found is - you can set at least one flag (RED - the ONLY flag you can set with the email in the 'main list view') - and then double-click the email to open it. After 'upgrading' to Office 2010 through my MAPS subscription, I've found that Microsoft just flat DROPPED the ability to right-click on the color categoriesįlag in the main email list and set a category directly from there! WHY?!? Yellow for 'waiting for reply from someone', orange for 'need to follow-up - not urgent', etc. I have for YEARS used the category colors to flag my important emails with RED for important (need to follow-up), Select Outlook as the application to scan. Not totally true - categories DO seem to work for IMAP accounts - but with ridiculously reduced functionality versus Outlook 2007 and before.
